A Message from Citizens First…..
Dear State Assemblymen, Delegates, Representatives and Senators,

Congratulations on your election or reelection to your respective state legislature. You are receiving this message within 48 hours of nearly every other state legislative official across the entire nation.

We are Citizens First, a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to growing and protecting individual liberty by encouraging states to collectively reassert their authority as the co-equal of the federal government as intended by the Founding Fathers. We are not an extension or affiliation of the Tea Party effort – we were established in our work before the Tea Party came into existence.

If you have not read the Federalist Papers, we highly encourage you to make the effort since it will deepen your understanding of the Constitution, and you will see several unmistakable themes in the writings:

· The Founders expected that citizens would most closely think of their respective states when they thought about government

· The Founders were very fearful of the new, greater powers they were conferring on the federal government, and specifically positioned the states as the balancing power to keep the federal government in check

· One of the means the states had to keep the federal government in check was the election of U.S. Senators by the state legislatures – an important feature undone by the 17th amendment

· A second means left to the states to keep the federal government in check is a constitutional convention under Article 5, giving the states the power to amend the Constitution without the consent of any branch of the federal government

We will discuss these topics further in future communications, but in the mean time, encourage you to visit our website at www.citizens-first.com. Feel free to write to us at citizensfirst@hotmail.com with any questions regarding our organization or mission.

Sincerely,

Citizens First
